Though Zach’s wife Tori has an average height, their children being dwarf has 50% of possibility.
Zach’s childhood was difficult due to dwarfism and he quoted, ‘I look at my childhood and being a boy on the farm, it was a little tough because boys are very alpha-doggy and follow the pack. I was always chasing the pack and way behind the pack. It was tough’. After going through all the troubles, he took the tough decision of being a father. Soon after the birth of their son Jackson, the couple announced Jackson’s Achondroplasia. Zach is quite determined and prepared for raising his dwarf son and helping him grow in every possible way.
On raising a dwarf kid, Zach said, ‘You have to encourage a dwarf child a little more because it will take them five steps to do what others can do in two’. He also added, ‘But I knew, dwarf or not, I was going to parent my child with the mentality that not everyone gets a trophy. You have to earn it’.
Zach knows that being a dwarf means having a little tougher life than an average person but as long as you are happy and healthy, nothing matters. You can achieve whatever you wish just by hard work and determination, no matter how tall you are.
Being an achondroplasic, Zach had medical complications since childhood. When Zach was a child, a skull shunt implant was done to drain the excess cerebrospinal fluid. But unfortunately, the shunt failed and surgical procedures were adopted afterward. This whole medical condition was included in an episode of Little People, Big World’s episode with the title ‘Zach’s Emergency’. He also had a surgery on his legs for correction of bowed legs.
