Rod Rosenstein is an American attorney who serves the United States as the Deputy Attorney General since 2017. He is of the Republican party who was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. However, his nomination was never considered by the US Senate.

He was born as Rod Jay Rosenstein on 13 January 1965. He is the son of father Robert Rosenstein and mother Gerri Rosenstein. His father ran a small business while his mother was a bookkeeper and also school board president. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvanian, US but grew up in Lower Moreland Township, Pennsylvanian. He has a sister named Dr. Nancy Messonnier. She is the director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 1986, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in economics, summa cum laude from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvanian. After that, in 1989, he received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Harvard Law School. There, he was the editor of the Harvard Law Review.

At the beginning of his career, he served as a law clerk to Judge Douglas H. Ginsburg of the United States Court of Appeals. After that, he prosecuted public corruption cases from 1990 to 1993 as the trial attorney with the Public Integrity Section of the Criminal Division. During 1997-1998, he was a Wasserstein Fellow at Harvard Law School. Later, between 2001 and 2005, for the tax division in the US Justice Department, he served as principal deputy assistant attorney general. After that in 2005, he was appointed by George W. Bush to serve as US attorney for the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. There he remained even after Barack Obama took over the presidential office in 2009. Subsequently, with his office team, he built a case against Johnston, a country executive in Maryland for hiding cash bribes. The case ran for five years and in 2011 Johnston pleaded guilty. He held the record as the nation's longest-serving US attorney by serving the US Justice Department for 27 years. Finally, on 13 January 2017, he was nominated as the Deputy Attorney General by President Donald Trump. Then on 25 April 2017, he was confirmed by the US. In May 2017, he came into the epicenter of the national controversy.
