Frances was born on June 23, 1957, she was adopted at one and a half years by Vernon W. McDormand and Noreen E. Nickleson on Gibson City, Illinois, the United States. Her father was a shepherd and her mother was a registered nurse and receptionist. Namely, she has a sibling, Dorothy A. McDormand. She belongs to American nationality and to English ethnicity.
