After six years after he was the first to join the Hoffman crew mining for gold in Alaska.

Jim has two children. He sends his son Nathan and daughter Breanna to college. His son attended at Oregon State University and he graduated with a degree in Business Information Systems. Her daughter Breanna graduated from Pioneer Pacific with an Associates in Medical Assisting. Jim feels proud and thinks himself blessed to be able to give his kids such opportunities and watch them successful in their future.

During off-seasons, Jim likes to offer help to a veteran's organization called Home with Heroes. The organization gives Veterans the opportunity to hunt and fish.
