Who is David Benioff?
David Benioff is an American screenwriter, television producer and writer, and novelist. He is also the co-creator and showrunner of the widely watched, most important, and acclaimed award-winning HBO series Game of Thrones. He has garnered his value from translating books into film, writing the scripts of hit movies and television series, and writing books of his own.
So how rich is David Benioff?
According to a survey conducted in early 2016, it was found that David Benioff has an estimated net worth of $18 million. He has earned his basic net worth from writing books, and creating the series “Game of Thrones”. He has drafted a screenplay of the mythological epic Troy (2004) for which Warner Bros pictures paid him $2.5 million.
David Benioff and Dan Weiss new series “Confederate”
Game of Throne has gained a lot of audience focus. With Game of Thrones airing their last season 7, HBO announced that originators and showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss of GOT were set to write and produce a new series called “Confederate” after Thrones is over. The new television series explores an alternate timeline where the Confederate States of America won the Civil War, and take place in a world where slavery is a “modern institution”. Many disapproved of the idea that two white men would be delivering such a racially charged story.
Benioff was born on September 25, 1970, in New York City, to a Jewish family. He is the son of Barbara (Benioff) and Stephen Friedman. He is the youngest of three children. He was a graduate student of The Collegiate School and of Dartmouth College. In 1992, he graduated from Dartmouth College and gained his Master’s degree in Creative Writing from the University of California-Irvine, and Master of Arts from Trinity College, Dublin.
Benioff became a high school English teacher at Poly Prep in Brooklyn, New York City for two years. While he was teaching at Brooklyn, he wrote his novel “The 25th Hour”. His career took an interesting turn when Tobey Maguire read an initial trade copy and became interested in making a film of the book. The film was “25th hour”, starred by Edward Norton and directed by Spike Lee. After a success of his first book, he started writing his second book “When the Nines Roll Over (And Other Stories)” in 2004.
Benioff then commenced to draft the screenplay of “Troy”, and later for the psychological thriller “Stay”. Similarly, Benioff scripted for “The Kite Runner” and wrote the screenplay for the X-Men spin-off “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”. He worked on the script for three years.
Benioff started working for “Game of Thrones” when Benioff became attentive in adapting the "A Song of Ice and Fire" novel series by George R.R. Martin and began working with D.B. Weiss. Benioff enjoyed the series so much that he and Weiss connected with Martin and formed it into the fruitful series that we know now as "Game of Thrones".
Benioff is married to actress Amanda Peet in New York City. The couple has three children- Frances "Frankie" Pen Friedman, Molly June Friedman, and Henry Peet Friedman. The family stays in Manhattan and Beverly Hills, California.
